VimpelCom Modems

29 Jul 2008

Other Big Trio operators (MTS, Megafon) have already been providing similar services.

The company has signed an agreement with Chinese companies, ZTE and Huawei, regarding procurement of USB modems, says Head of New Business Development Department of VimpelCom, Diana Samoshkina. Modems will enable access to Internet from laptops and desktops using GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA technologies. USB modems will be available for sale as of July 21, 2008. VimpelCom plans to sell 300-400 thousand modems a year.

As noted by VimpelCom, USB modems will work in 3G networks. "We count on a wide uptake. Besides existing clients, this service will attract new ones", - believes Press Secretary of VimpelCom, Ekaterina Osadchaya.

According to an analyst of MForum, Dmitry Deev, ARPU of one USB modem equals $25-30.
